Our Therapeutic Expertise
At Soleo Health, our specialized clinical team helps patients manage chronic gout through coordinated infusion therapy, medication management, and ongoing support designed to improve outcomes and quality of life.
Chronic gout is a long-term form of inflammatory arthritis caused by excess uric acid in the body. When uric acid levels remain elevated over time, crystals can form and accumulate in the joints, triggering painful gout flares and, eventually, causing permanent joint damage if left untreated.
While gout often begins with occasional attacks, chronic gout develops when uric acid levels are not adequately controlled, leading to frequent flares, persistent inflammation, and the formation of uric acid crystal deposits known as tophi.
Uric acid is a natural waste product created when the body breaks down substances called purines. Normally, the kidneys remove uric acid through urine. However, when the body produces too much uric acid or cannot eliminate enough of it, uric acid levels rise in the bloodstream.
Over time, excess uric acid can form needle-shaped crystals. These crystals trigger inflammation, causing the hallmark symptoms of gout. The inflammation crystals can cause inflammation in the following areas:
Symptoms may include:
Visible or palpable deposits of uric acid crystals that commonly develop on the fingers, toes, elbows, knees and ears.
Joint Damage
Long-term inflammation can erode cartilage and bone, resulting in decreased mobility and permanent joint changes.
Kidney Complications
Elevated uric acid levels may contribute to kidney stones, chronic kidney disease, and reduced kidney function.
Several factors can increase the likelihood of developing chronic gout, including:
Healthcare providers may use several approaches to diagnose chronic gout:
The primary goal of treatment is to lower uric acid levels and prevent future crystal formation. The first course of treatment is oral uric acid-lowering medications to help reduce uric acid production.
Medications used to control inflammation may include colchicine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids.
For patients whose gout remains uncontrolled despite standard therapies, healthcare providers may prescribe Krystexxa® (pegloticase).
Krystexxa is an FDA-approved intravenous biologic therapy designed to lower uric acid levels by converting uric acid into a substance the body can more easily eliminate.
Soleo Health provides comprehensive infusion services for patients receiving therapies such as Krystexxa. Depending on clinical appropriateness, therapy may be administered in our infusion centers or at home by an infusion nurse.

Chronic Inflammatory Disorder Therapies
While chronic gout is not considered curable, it is highly manageable with appropriate treatment and long-term uric acid control.
Yes. Untreated chronic gout can lead to irreversible joint damage, disability, and kidney complications.
Many providers aim for serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dL, although individual treatment goals may vary.
Infusion therapy may be considered when oral uric acid-lowering medications have not adequately controlled the disease or when significant tophi and ongoing symptoms persist.
Patients may be candidates if they:
