Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune disorder where the tissues around the eye swell, leading to various discomforting symptoms.

An autoimmune disease is when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s cells, tissues, and organs, believing them to be foreign invaders. This misguided immune response can lead to inflammation and damage in various parts of the body. Autoimmune diseases can affect nearly any part of the body, including the heart, brain, nerves, muscles, skin, eyes, joints, lungs, kidneys, and, in this case, the thyroid gland.

Soleo Health is here to help with treatment for TED, both in your home and at our ambulatory infusion centers (AICs). Access the treatment that best suits your needs.

Thyroid Eye Disease FAQs

What Does Thyroid Eye Disease Look Like?

TED is often characterized by one or more of the following:

  • Bulging eyes
  • Dry eye or an uncomfortable sensation akin to grit in the eyes
  • Double vision
  • Pressure or pain behind the eyes
  • Reduced thyroid function
  • Changes in thyroid hormones
  • Complications with the optic nerve

Understanding the stages of thyroid eye disease is crucial for timely intervention.

What are the Treatments for Thyroid Eye Disease?

You can access thyroid eye disease treatment at home or at one of our ambulatory infusion centers (AICs). If TED affects your ability to drive, at-home treatments can be beneficial.

Common thyroid eye disease treatments include steroids, antibiotics, infusions, and surgical procedures.

Tepezza® (teprotumumab-trbw) is an FDA-approved medication used for the treatment of thyroid eye disease. Tepezza infusions are an effective option for treating thyroid eye disease. These infusions are conducted every three weeks over six months, with a total of eight infusions. Each session typically lasts between 60-90 minutes. After Tepezza treatments, thyroid eye disease often enters remission.

How Does TED Treatment Benefit You?

The benefits of treating thyroid eye disease can increase your quality of life by:

  • Reducing Swelling: Treatment can substantially curtail the bulging of the eyes and reduce swelling.
  • Alleviating Symptoms: Dry eyes, double vision, and the unsettling pressure behind the eyes can all be significantly reduced.

Tepezza Side Effects

As with many medications, Tepezza can cause side effects. Some common side effects reported with Tepezza include muscle cramps or spasms, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue and high blood sugar. Consult with your physician about concerns.
