Infusion Therapy Site of Care Options

Our treatment locations include infusion centers, patients’ homes, and providers’ offices. We evaluate each patient to find the most affordable and medically appropriate treatment location. The decision about where to provide therapy depends on the patient’s insurance coverage, their specific medical condition, and whether nursing support is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if my therapy is covered by my insurance?

How Will I Know if My Therapy Is Covered by My Insurance?

Our team works with your insurance company to help get your prescription(s) and home infusion services covered. You may have to pay a copay each time the medication is filled.

We will tell you the exact amount you need to pay. The co-pay amount for a medication may be high despite your insurance company paying for most of the cost.

Our team will explore a range of financial assistance programs that may help reduce the cost of your drug therapy. You may need to complete an authorization form for the patient medication assistance program to receive these services.

Some medicines need documentation to cover the costs. This process is called prior authorization. Our team has the expertise to complete the previous authorization paperwork, which may take a few business days.

Our team keeps you and your provider informed throughout the process, especially if unexpected delays occur.

If insurance denies coverage for your medicine, our team can help your provider file an appeal. If your insurance plan considers Soleo Health an “out-of-network” pharmacy, we will inform you of the cost of filling your medicine with us in writing. If there are cost savings for you, our staff will transfer your prescription, at your request, to an “in-network” pharmacy.

What is specialty pharmacy?

What is Specialty Pharmacy?

A specialty pharmacy provides complex and costly medications, usually requiring special storage and handling that may not be available at your local retail pharmacy.

These specialty medications are injected, taken by mouth, or infused. Sometimes, they have side effects that require monitoring by a trained pharmacist or registered nurse.

Soleo Health focuses on providing these medications while providing excellent customer service and clinical support.

What is the Difference Between Infusion Therapy Given at an Infusion Center Versus Home Infusions?

What is the Difference Between Infusion Therapy Given at an Infusion Center Versus Home Infusions?

An infusion center is a staffed location where infusions are provided by a registered nurse who will monitor your treatment via intravenous or subcutaneous medication. Home infusion is the same, but therapy is provided in your home.

If appropriate, caregivers and patients are often taught how to administer medications themselves. Intravenous antibiotics, immunoglobulin therapy, and Total Parental Nutrition (TPN) are some examples of infusion therapies.

Who Will Administer My Treatment?

Who Will Administer My Treatment?

Soleo Health develops an individualized plan of care focused on your infusion therapy needs. Our most important concern is your safety and comfort.

When you are ready to receive your therapy, we will schedule your infusion appointment at your convenience. Your infusion medication is mixed in an accredited Soleo Health branch pharmacy that meets all industry sterility standards.

Some patients are good candidates to administer the therapy themselves. If this is an option for you, the nurse will teach you or your caregiver how to administer the medication until your comfort level allows you to become independent with your therapy. Administering your own therapy will help you return to your day-to-day activities and the things you enjoy most.

Will I Receive Education and Training on My Medication?

Will I Receive Education and Training on My Medication?

Soleo Health clinicians are trained in your medication and are available to answer questions about your therapy and care plan. Our pharmacists and nurses will inform your doctors, nursing agencies, and other providers of your clinical progress.

Pharmacists and nurses will:

  • Teach you how to take your medicine correctly and consistently, and share why it’s crucial.
  • Ensure you know how to use the self-administered medication provided by Soleo Health.
  • Help you understand and manage side effects and drug interactions.
  • Discuss any problems you may have, such as administration difficulties or cost concerns.
  • Work with your healthcare team to ensure your therapy is safe, effective, and appropriate.

Please call one of our clinicians if you have any questions regarding your treatment. A licensed pharmacist and nurse are available during business hours and 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for any urgent needs relating to your medication. In case of an emergency, call 911.

We educate you and your caregivers on your condition and individualized treatment plan. If applicable, you will receive demonstrations on the self-administration of your therapy and the use of any devices. For additional resources, check out our training videos in the link below.

What is the Therapy Care Management Program?

What is the Therapy Care Management Program?

Our Therapy Care Management Program is designed to help you achieve optimal medication performance and adherence.

Benefits of participation in our program include:

  • Improved knowledge of medication use and administration
  • Improved medication compliance by including you in creating your individualized treatment plan to ensure medication doses aren’t missed
  • Improved ability to manage potential, difficult side effects
  • Greater self-management of medications and medical conditions
  • Improved coordination of healthcare services through the collaboration of your pharmacist and provider
  • 24/7 accessibility to a pharmacist and a nurse

While our dedicated Therapy Care Specialists can help you maximize the benefits of your therapy, only your provider can diagnose your condition and prescribe medication.

You should maintain your appointments with your provider or physician and take your medication as prescribed to avoid complications and achieve the best results from your therapy.

It is also important that you share with our clinicians accurate and up-to-date information about other medicines and supplements you are taking, updates on your allergies, and any changes to your health, because this information impacts the care and coordination we provide.

If desired, the patient/caregiver can access a staff member’s name and job title and speak with the staff member’s supervisor.

These Therapy Care Management Programs are optional, and you may choose to be excluded from them by notifying your Therapy Care Specialist or pharmacist at any time.

How Do I Get a Prescription Filled Through Soleo Health?

How Do I Get a Prescription Filled Through Soleo Health?

Your prescriber may fax, call, or send an electronic prescription for your medication, which will undergo an insurance benefits investigation.

Once that is completed, your prescription will enter our pharmacy management queue. If the pharmacy can fill the medication, and it is a specialty medication, then a team member will begin enrolling you in our Specialty Disease Management Program.

This service includes education about how and when to take your medication, managing potential side effects, patient programs, and ongoing clinical evaluation and support. Patients receiving home infusion therapies will be enrolled in the local branch patient care service.

Does Soleo Health Ship the Medications to my Home?

Does Soleo Health Ship the Medications to my Home?

Soleo Health will deliver your medication via courier or a common carrier express shipping (i.e., FedEx, UPS). Verification of medication delivery is confirmed with a signature.

Coordinate with the pharmacy if you cannot accept the package; it can be left at your home or another approved location based on prior communication with the pharmacy.

We are not able to ship to a P.O. Box. We will also include any necessary supplies, such as needles, syringes, sharps containers and alcohol swabs required for administering your medication.

If your medication(s) require special handling or refrigeration, they will be packaged and shipped accordingly.

Soleo Health will make every effort to deliver your medication and supplies early if a weather warning is in place. A Soleo Health team member will attempt to call you with any special instructions.

Please ensure we have your most current information and alternate information, such as an email or mobile number, so we can reach you in case of an emergency or a delivery delay, so there is no lapse in therapy.

We also request an emergency contact on file for communication in an emergency or if we are not able to contact you. In addition, please let our staff know if your contact information changes.

It is important to unpack your delivery and inspect your medications and supplies as soon as possible. Your medication may be sensitive to temperature changes, which may spoil it.

Review the label for storage information, and store refrigerated medications as soon as possible. Ask your nurse or pharmacist about any delivery issues or storage questions.

Infusion Center patients will be provided with instructions on how to store and transport medication(s) under proper temperatures to their infusion/injection appointment.

What if I Have an Adverse Reaction to the Medication?

What if I Have an Adverse Reaction to the Medication?

Call 911 or have someone drive you to a hospital emergency room if the reaction appears serious or life-threatening. Contact Soleo Health or your provider who prescribed the medicine to report the reaction.

Will my Medications be Substituted for Generic Drugs?

Will my Medications be Substituted for Generic Drugs?

Occasionally, generic drugs must be substituted for brand-name drugs. This could occur because your insurance company prefers the generic to be dispensed or to reduce your copay.

If a substitution needs to be made, a Soleo Health Pharmacy team member will contact you before shipping the medication to inform you of the substitution.
